Nine supramolecular assemblies from 5,7-dimethyl-1,8naphthyridine-2-amine and carboxylic acids by strong classical H-bonds and other noncovalent associations

This article demonstrates 5,7-dimethyl-1,8-naphthyridine-2-amine based organic salt formation in nine crystalline solids 1-9, in which the carboxylates have been integrated. Addition of equivalents of the COOH to the solution of 5,7-dimethyl-1,8-naphthyridine-2-amine generates the singly protonated cationic species which direct the carboxylates. The nine compounds crystallize as their organic salts with the COOH proton transferred to the aromatic N of the 5,7-dimethyl-1,8-naphthyridine-2-amine. All salts have been characterized by IR, mp, EA and XRD technique. The major driving force in 1-9 is the classical H-bonds from 5,7-dimethyl-1,8-naphthyridine-2-amine and the acids, here the N N-H…O H-bonds were found in all salts. Other extensive non-covalent interactions also exhibit great functions in space association of the molecular counterparts in relevant crystals. Except 4, all salts had the CH-O, or CH3-O interactions or both. Except 9, the common R-2(2) (8) graph set has been observed in all salts due to the H-bonds and the non-covalent associations. Synthesis, Spectroscopic Characterizations, and Biological Evalution of Some Substituted 1-Ethyl-1,4-Dihydro-7-Methyl-4-Oxo-1,8-Naphthyridine-3-Carbohydrazide and their Copper Complexes

Different analogs of 1-ethyl-1, 4-dihydro-7-methyH-4-oxo-1, 8-naphthyridine-3-carbohydrazide ( carbonyl hydrazone derivatives of Nalidixic acid, H 1-10) and their copper complexes have been synthesized from reaction of Nalidixic acid hydrazide with substituted benzaldehyde. These are characterized on the basis of IR spectra, H-1-NMR spectra, Mass spectra, elemental and AAS studies for metals. Copper complexes were prepared from CuCl2.2H(2)O and these ligands, the metal ligand ratio was found to be 1:1 and found to be bidentate. The antibacterial, antifungal and antioxidant activities of these hydrazone ligands and their copper complexes have also been evaluated. Copper complexes possess antibacterial and antifungal activities better than the parent hydrazone ligands while they have better antioxidant activity with DPPH radical than copper complexes. Nalidixic acid have maximum of all biological activities, but H-6 showed slightly better antioxidant activity than Nalidixic acid and other activities were close to it.

The different electron transporting and hole/exciton blocking properties of the silane derivatives are investigated via multilayered structure of organic electrophosphorescent devices by using fac-tris(2-phenylpyridine) iridium (Ir(ppy)(3)) as the phosphorescent emitter. 15.4% of maximum external quantum efficiency (EQE) corresponding to 56.2 cd A(-1) of maximum current efficiency is obtained with a maximum power efficiency of 58.9 lm W-1 by employing di-(4-(1,8-naphthyridin-2-yl) phenyl) diphenylsilane (DNPS) as the electron transporting material, combining with 2,9-dimethyl-4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline as the hole blocking layer, which is higher than the performance of conventional Alq(3) device. When changing naphthyridine of DNPS to the electron-withdrawing group of quinoline (di-(4-(isoquinolin-4-yl)phenyl) diphenylsilane), only 11.4% of maximum EQE with 41.4 cd A(-1) of maximum current efficiency and 32.5 lm W-1 of a maximum power efficiency is obtained. These indicate that the electron transporting ability increases while the electron-withdrawing group changes from quinoline to naphthyridine, which is also consistent with the calculated reorganization energy.
