After 20 hours, the solvent is removed. The product is purified by column chromatography on silica to give ethyl 7-(3-N-t-butoxycarbonyl Norvalylamino pyrrolidin-1-yl-1-(2,4-difluorophenyl-6-fluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-1,8-naphthyridine-3-carboxylate. This compound is dissolved in 20 ml trifluoroacetic acid and 20 ml of 6N HCl is added and the mixture is refluxed for 20 hours. The solvent is removed to give 7-(3-Norvaline-amino-1-pyrrolidinyl)-1-(2,4-difluorophenyl)-6-fluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-1,8-naphthyridine-3-carboxylic acid hydrochloride.
