A simple and efficient two-step method was implemented for the synthesis of ethyl 7-chloro-4-oxo-1,4-dihydro-1,8-naphthyridine-3-carboxylate. Comparing with the reported Grohe-Heitzer reaction, the time and the reaction steps have been reduced using microwave irradiation.
