The mixture was poured onto water and extracted three times with ethyl acetate. The combined organics were washed with water and brine, dried over MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated to give 6-bromo-1-ethyl-1,8-naphthyridin-2(1H)-one as a yellow solid in 87% yield, which was used without further purification.
